Unitarian Universalist Association (UUA) Canton, NY

The Unitarian Universalist Church of Canton is a Welcoming Congregation of the Unitarian Universalist Association (UUA). Both the local church and the UUA fully support the rights and worth of GLBT people, and are active in the freedom to marry movement. The ministers perform services of union and child dedication ceremonies for same-sex couples. The church welcomes GLBT people into full participation in all programs and staffing, and the religious education program celebrates all families. With roots in liberal Protestantism, Unitarian Universalism now draws on wisdom from all the world’s religions, and from nature, science, art, and each person’s own experience.

GLSEN- Teaching Respect for All

The Gay, Lesbian, Straight Education Network strives to assure that each member of every school community is valued and respected regardless of sexual orientation or gender identity/expression.

 

Human Rights Campaign

National advocacy for lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender equal rights. They are a bipartisan organization that works to advance equality based on sexual orientation and gender expression and identity, to ensure that gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender Americans can be open, honest and safe at home, at work and in the community.

 

Lambda Legal

A national organization committed to achieving full recognition of the civil rights of lesbians, gay men, bisexuals, transgender people and those with HIV through impact litigation, education and public policy work. Their website includes information on LGBTQ student rights.

 

PFLAG

Parents, Families, and Friends of Lesbians and Gays. The St. Lawrence County chapter of this national support and advocacy organization meets regularly in the Unitarian Universalist Church, 3 1/2 East Main Street. Call the church office (386-2498) or REACHOUT (265-2422) for meeting information.
